Challenge: The leaders of a nonprofit were asked by the FCC to lead a program to provide broadband access and digital literacy for families that do not have broadband at home. The nonprofit needed to do the planning and analysis to advance relationships with corporate, nonprofit, and public partners. The families addressed are among the approximately 100 million Americans that do not have broadband at home. Because of our deep industry experience, AV&Co. was chosen to advise and facilitate the unique public/private partnership.
Solution: AV&Co. assisted the client from initial planning through implementation and launch. We first helped define a strategy for reaching the most households by conducting a geographic analysis and identifying markets for an initial launch. Second, we conducted operational planning to demonstrate to the FCC and private partners how the program would work. Finally, we engaged with vendors who would maintain a database of qualifying customers, process orders, and identify a cable company to provide service.
Results: AV&Co. facilitated the program launch with over 40 participating partners, including Microsoft, Best Buy, Goodwill, The Knight Foundation, and major cable companies. To date, the initiative has provided nearly 200,000 households with free and affordable broadband and technology.
